October 13, 2026 Bible Study — Human Nature Has Not Changed

Today, I am reading and commenting on  Matthew 27-28.

I have a Youtube video of me reading the Scripture passage and my comments. Please check it out and let me know your thoughts.

When Judas returned the thirty pieces of silver, the chief priests acknowledged that they had been in the wrong by giving it to Judas in the first place when they called it “blood money”.  Not only that, but Matthew suggests that it was commonly understood that they had done so by the fact that the field they bought with the money was known as the “Field of Blood.”  From there I want to look at the fact that the “crowd” chose the release of the violent, destructive man, Barabbas over the release of the innocent man, Jesus.  They did not do this entirely on their own.  The chief priests and the religious leaders stirred them up to do so.  Barabbas was not a person who elicited sympathy.  Matthew calls Barabbas “notorious”, and Pilate was clearly looking for someone he thought the people would desire to see killed.  My point being that we see crowds doing the same sort of thing today, being stirred up to seek the release of people who have done things most people, in most circumstances, would view as horrendous.  Usually, we see this happening to advance the political interests of those stirring up the crowg.  Pilate gave into the crowds to prevent riots.  Today, we see people riot when innocent people are not sacrificed to their anger.  This shows us that human nature has not changed in two thousand years.  Human nature has not changed since Cain killed Abel.
