October 12, 2026 Bible Study — Thoughts About the Man Who Provided the Space for the Last Supper

Today, I am reading and commenting on Matthew 25-26.

I have a Youtube video of me reading the Scripture passage and my comments. Please check it out and let me know your thoughts.

The first thing which stood out to me in today’s passage was that when His disciples asked Jesus where He wanted them to prepare for Him to ear the Passover, He told them to go to a “certain man.”  What stood out to me is that Matthew was one of the disciples whom Jesus told to go to that “certain man.”  Which made me wonder why Matthew did not use the man’s name here. The first explanation I thought of is that the man still owned the house in Jerusalem and Matthew did not want to expose the man to being identified as a follower of Jesus.  That would mean that Matthew wrote this Gospel before 70 A.D. and the destruction of the temple.  Another explanation would be that Matthew had forgotten the man’s name.  That is simple and easy, but seems improbable unless the man was not one of those who continued to have faith in Jesus after His resurrection (probably because he refused to accept the idea that Jesus resurrected).  It seems to me to be unlikely that the man who provided the space for Jesus to eat His last Passover meal would fail to believe that He rose from the dead.  The final possible explanation I can think of is that the man had died within a few years of Jesus’ resurrection and Matthew did not consider that his name would add anything to the story.  Personally, I lean towards the first explanation, that the Gospel According to Matthew was written before 70 A.D., to be the most likely.

There is a lot more to be thought about in this passage, I hope you read it today.
