Jeremiah called on the people of Jerusalem and the rest of Judah to amend their ways and to return to obeying God.  He began making this call during the years of Josiah’s revival.  Yet even in the middle of the revival which Josiah led, God was saying, “They did not listen to me.”  How much more may God be saying something similar today?  God told them that the burnt offerings and sacrifices were not the primary thing which He desired.  In the same way, going to worship services on Sunday and Wednesday night, tithing to support the local congregation is not what God truly wants.  No, God wants us to obey His voice and walk in the way that He commands.  Jesus commanded His disciples, and through them us, to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Are we preaching God’s word to the people of all nations? And, are we making disciples?  We need to be feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and those in prison, welcoming the stranger, and teaching others to do likewise.  If we are not doing these things, then when we gather to worship we are worshiping idols and not the true God.
