Once again leaders of the Israelites living in exile came to Ezekiel to inquire of God.  It is not clear to me if this was the same group of leaders, or a different group.  Considering that Ezekiel had dismissed the leaders who came to him the previous time, and how he had dismissed them, it seems presumptuous of the same leaders to come to him a second time.  God explains to Ezekiel how He had repeatedly called the people of Israel to follow His laws, His instructions, and how they had repeatedly rebelled against Him.  He explains how they had done this generation after generation.  Interestingly, God offers a reason why the Israelites kept rebelling against His commands: they wanted to be like other nations.  And that provides an important warning for us as well.  If we want to be God’s people we cannot be like the people who do not serve Him.  Those who serve God are not the same as those who do not serve God.  We cannot serve God and be His people and fit into the society around us.  I want to emphasize this.  Being faithful to God means not being like everyone else.
