When Jesus was on trial before Pilate, He responded only to Pilate’s question as to whether He was the King of the Jews, to which He replied, “You have said so.”  I believe Luke is abbreviating the exchange which would have also included the religious leaders of Jerusalem making multiple accusations against Jesus.  Many of those claims would have contained either questions or implied questions.  Then when Pilate sent Him to Herod, Jesus replied to none of Herod’s questions.  None of the questions which were asked were asked in order to learn.  Pilate and Herod asked Jesus questions in order to find an excuse to condemn Him.  Jesus did not answer those accusatory questions.  Jesus refused to discuss His message in the terms presented by His enemies.  We, also, should refuse to discuss His message in the terms His enemies present.  There was no answer which Jesus could make which would change the minds of those who were unwilling to listen, so He refused to give them an answer they could spin into something to accuse Him with.  In the same way,  when we are questioned by those who are not willing to listen to our answers, we should not give them an answer they will spin into something which they can use to justify the decision they have already made.
