I love writing about the prophecy God gave through Azariah. He starts out by saying, “The Lord is with you while you are with Him.”  If we put ourselves on God’s side, if we do that which God desires, God will be on our side and will make us successful.  Azariah follows that up with another great promise.  If you seek God, you will find Him, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.  This is a promise which contains a warning.  Azariah goes on to expound on these two promises.  He tells of how they were in distress because they were without the true God, but when they turned to God and sought Him, they found Him.  Before they turned and sought God they were afflicted no matter what they did.  However, Azariah praised Asa and the people of Judah for turning to God and told them to take courage and strengthen themselves because their work would be rewarded.  And Asa and his people did strengthen themselves to seek God with with their whole desire.  Let us do likewise.

Asa’s story, unfortunately, does not end there.  Later in his life, Asa forgot how God gave him victory when he was outnumbered by two to one or more.  When Baasha, the king of Israel, began making war against Judah, instead of trusting in God to give him victory, Asa turned to the king of Syria for aid.  As a result, the peace which Judah had experienced for thirty-five years came to an end.  So, it is important to continue seeking the Lord all of our lives.
