Today, I am reading and commenting on  Psalms 117-118.

Both of these psalms call on us to praise the Lord, to praise God because He has steadfast love for us and His faithfulness lasts forever.  Then in the second longer song the psalmist reminds us that if God is on our side we need fear no one.  I love the psalmist’s description of the enemies from whom God rescued him.  He says that they surrounded him like bees and were like a fire in a field of thorns.  For the first, I imagine like a swarm of yellow jackets when you disturb their nest.  For the second one, I think of the videos of the wildfires which burned down the Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles in 2025.  Both of these things are beyond the power of man to resist, but God can over come them.  So, let us not fear whatever is around us.  God can and will overcome whatever troubles we face.
